Phil and Pam Boulding, the center of this musical whirl of Holiday sparkle, are magical at holiday time.
Yuletide Concert Magical Strings Ensemble
The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park concert is the first of their holiday series (which goes from Portland to Mount Vernon) and is, according to Phil, “always exciting, the energy is up and high because it’s the first show of the season.” This year is specially special…Brittany Boulding, one of their five children, has returned from NYC where she lived for years performing with major orchastras. It’s her first year back and she is busy as she’s the Concertmistress of the Bellevue Philharmonic, as well as playing with the Seattle Symphony. She will appear with the Magical Strings group and play a special solo as well as fiddling along with the Celtic music and jigs! ...
Intentional Living Seminar lights up Lake Forest Park
October 28, 2009 by Edy Kizaki · Comments
Tuesday evening, as part of the “Lighten the Load and Light Up the Future” project in Lake Forest Park, Piper Lauri Salogga of Natural Balance (Seattle), spoke to a group on “Peace and Vitality, Living Intentionally in Your Home.”
The lecture was supposed to go from 7 to 8:30, but at 9:30 participants were still eagerly questioning Piper, whose sparkling intensity won her instant fans. At that moment, for everyone in the room, the most important thing was to understand how our arrangement and choices in our homes are affecting our moods, energy, ability to move forward in life, in fact. The school custodian, however, was begging us to leave so he could close up, and a last few eager questioners gathered around Piper in the dark chilly parking lot, unwilling to let her go.
Explaining that “our surroundings have a powerful effect on us” Piper went on to teach us some of the basics of feng shui, including the bagua, a directional map that you can place over your home to find out which areas are connected strongly with various aspects of your life. The ancient chinese energy management system includes the symbols of wood, metal, water, fire and air...
Bear Sighted in Shoreline
May 20, 2009 by Edy Kizaki · Comments
There have been reports of bear sightings in Shoreline. Early this morning a jogger reported seeing a bear behind Kellogg/Shorecrest headed into the Hamlin Park woods. Yesterday afternoon it was reportedly seen near Parkwood in the Twin Ponds area. As reported on the news, this type of bear is not a threat to people unless cornered. Students at Kellogg and Shorecrest have been advised to stay away from the bear if sighted. They should not corner or threaten it. Call 911 to report a bear sighting.
When asked if the bear were a threat, or could be a danger to little children, a Fish and Wildlife Agent didn’t think much of the question. He is reported as saying, “Do you know how many little children have been eaten by a black bear? Zero. You have more chance of being run over by a KIRO news truck than of being hurt by this bear.”
A two year old black bear now nicknamed “Urban Phantom,” he was first spotted in Magnolia and is little by little heading east while eluding attempts to capture and help him out of the city. He seems to be headed toward the unpopulated spots to the north and east of the Seattle Metro area, and finally hopefully back to the...
About Shoreline, WA
March 3, 2009 by Seattle Guide · Comments
A suburban city located 15 minutes north of Seattle, bordering North Seattle to its south, Lake Forest Park to its east, and Woodway, Edmonds, Lynnwood, and Mountlake Terrace to its north. Shoreline was considered North Seattle until about 12 years ago, before it seceded and became its own independent city. The reason for the secession was to gain control of their school systems; and now the Shoreline School District is rated one of the best in the State. Because of its location, residents enjoy the best of both worlds… the calm and laid back atmosphere suburbs offer and a very short trip to one of the nation’s most vibrant and beautiful cities to experience the urban life (and the dining and shopping, of course!).
What draws people to Shoreline?
Besides the nice balance of the location, is its highly acclaimed school district, the family oriented lifestyle it offers, the rapidly growing business community, and – last but definitely not least – the happy median of the abundance of trees and beaches that boast the most beautiful sunsets on Puget Sound.
Homes in Shoreline
Shoreline homes tend to be more affordable compared to the Seattle market, another reason why people...
Snow Blanket Deepens In Shoreline
December 18, 2008 by Edy Kizaki · Comments
Shoreline, like the entire Seattle area, is having a snow day. Well, two snow days. For the second day in a row schools have closed, and even as I type snow is continuing to fall. Yesterday when I visited Helen in her restaurant Toyoda’s (I’ll blog on that too!) she told me that a White Christmas is predicted. Great!
When I went up to Top Market to pick up some eggs (and some eggnog!) and take a look around, traffic was out and about, but reduced, and everyone was going much slower than usual. We are not used to much snow in Seattle so it is not usual for people to be very prepared. I hear that the Home Depot guy told my friend who went in for De-Icer (sp??) that he was about the 100th person who’d asked for it…this was last night before the even heavier snow fall that was happening today. No more De Icer, we were told!
I took my dog Yuki for a walk this morning in Richmond Beach and checked out the scenary. I saw kids playing in the snow at the playground and park at Richmond Beach Library (which is closed due to the weather). Every little fence looks sweet and each leaf is covered with it’s own little frosting. There is poetry in the details...
Shoreline Thanksgiving Shopping

Shoreline, the city just north of Seattle, is convenient to all the city has to offer. Shoreline starts at about 145th, and it only takes a few minutes on I-5 to be in the Seattle city center, which explains some of it’s popularity and high property values. In fact, it used to be an unincorporated part of Seattle before it became a city in 1995. You can also easily go around the top of Lake Washington and be in Kirkland/Redmond/Bellevue in a half hour. This is great news for some househunting couples when one person will be working in Redmond or Kirkland, and the other will be commuting to a workplace in Seattle. There’s an old saying here, “never cross the water for your commute” and this solves that little problem nicely!
The city’s website says, “Covering 11.74 square miles, Shoreline is Washington’s 15th largest city with more than 53,000 residents. It is primarily residential with more than 70 percent of the households being single-family residences. Over the years, the Shoreline community has developed a reputation for strong neighborhoods, excellent schools and abundant parks.”
Neighborhoods include Ballenger, Briarcrest, Echo...
