Edmonds Center for the Arts, here comes 2010

As one of the premier performing arts centers in the region, Edmonds Center for the Arts continues to provide patrons with evening after evening of memorable and affordable entertainment.  There is an excellent range of music, theater and comedy presentations, made even better by the charming and beautiful waterfront city in which the events take place.  Edmonds is a delightful mixture of a rather traditional upscale seaside town, too settled and residential to be a resort but with a feeling of such, with excellent restaurant choices, galleries, antique and specialty shops, a chocolate shop, the inevitable beloved cafes, and a traditional village feel to the downtown area which tempts visits from residents all over the greater Seattle Metro area. At the performing arts center we’re in the midst of the 2009-2010 season, with upcoming events such as The Peking Acrobats (Sunday 1/31/2010), The Second City, a “unique blend of cutting-edge improvisation and satirical sketch comedy”  (Saturday, 2/13/2010), a Grammy nominated woodwind quintet, Imani Winds (Sunday, 2/21/2010), Angelique Kidjo, West African singer/performer gathering wide influences of R&B, funk, and...

Semantics Gallery in Edmonds for Art and Treasure

Some cities are spending millions trying to create a downtown.  Edmonds has had one for 100 years, and it’s going Semantics Gallery, Edmonds strong.  The old Downtown Edmonds has been called a Northwest Carmel, partly due to the plethora of art galeries and artsy shops lining the streets.  There are about 7 galleries in downtown Edmonds, and the monthly Third Thursday Art Walk draws crowds.  The community is accostomed to being involved, and loves art.  Edmonds also draws thousands a year to vacation, walk, browse, rest, get sand in their shoes (with 2 miles of walkable beachfront, a marina, a ferry terminal, it is truly a town by the Sound).  According to .. gallery owner Denise Cole, Edmonds has become a destination for art collectors from Seattle, Bellevue, and points north and south.    Being only about 25 minutes north from downtown Seattle makes it a very easy drive! Larry Jeffers talks about his constructed pieces Larry Jeffers, owner of Semantics Gallery, had a successful gallery which incorporated a fossil and mineral store for years in Pioneer Square.  He closed it in 1994 and arrived in Edmonds with a vision of a small gallery to showcase his own work,...

Edmonds Galleries Provide A Day Full of Art

One of my absolutely favorite places to spend time is Edmonds. In the old, quaint village near the Ferry Teminal there are so many choices a day is much too short to see everything, but I like to gallery hop and fill up a whole day with art, and a little lunch of course. This means saving the Travel Bookstore and numerous other shops for “next time”, but anticipation is a good thing, right? The Chamber’s website features several “Spend the Day” theamed iteneries…all enticing! Recently a client and I discoverd a mutual love of art and took a few hours away from house hunting to visit several of the Edmonds downtown galleries and antique shops. Each one has such a distinct flavor that we felt like children being led through the streets by a pied piper, but the temptation was visual. She was down from Alaska to relocate and trying to find the area that felt best, I couldn’t resist showing Edmonds off! First we went to Aria Studio Gallery, where proprietor Joan Archer paints and teaches art. Next door was the Fabric of Life Foundation, which teaches young women in Mali, West Africa, to be artisan-entropeneurs and create a craft business allowing...
