Mariners at Safeco Field

Edy Kizaki

It’s baseball season, and for Seattle, that means the Seattle Mariners.  For me, it means wherever we go on game days someone is telling someone the score or what the score was or who’s ahead.  When we stop for a quick bite between showings Dave just happens to find us most convenient to a sports bar, which is filled with people pretending to talk to each other sometimes while their eyes are glued to large screens, or maybe they’re arguing about one of the players and why he was traded or discussing the latest injury.  And when we have tea with Dave’s 89 year old mother they chat about how the team is doing (yes, he is a Seattle boy born and raised).

I don’t keep track of the schedule, but I know for sure it’s happening.  My daughter (18) and I talked it over, and decided.  We’re going.  Living here, never having been, well, it just doesn’t seem right.  So… stand by for part 2 of my Seattle Mariner’s blogging efforts, I hereby swear in public that I will attend a game by the end of the season! (Er…this year!)  And what that means is, going to Safeco Field.  We always pass it… you can’t drive down I-5 through downtown or take someone to the airport without passing Safeco Field and Quest Field.  If you go to the aquarium on the wrong day you may have more trouble than usual parking, since it’s right there in the middle of everything.  And of course it’s hard to miss, due to it’s distinctive shape, people call it the “clamshell”.

:-)   Anybody want to go to a baseball game?

For more information about Safeco Field where the Mariners play home games, there is the official Mariners website with news, views, a handy scoreboard, etc.  There are also tours of the Clamshell and websites about it for those who don’t want to bother with a game, just want to see the building!  I am tempted to try one of those, as family legend has it that my daughter’s friend’s mother was the architect (living here it is no wonder knowing someone who designed something famous!) but we talked it over, and we might as well see a game while we are there.
