Celebrating Seattle, New Year’s Parties
December 21, 2009 by Edy Kizaki · Comments
If these three words strike your heart like lightening as they did mine (underwater dance floor) you’ll want to be at the Bonza Bash at the Seattle Aquarium. This New Year’s Eve 2010 party is a first, as they say on the website, the inaugural bash, billed as A Diamond Night in the Emerald City. At $75 per ticket or $230 for the VIP package, it’s about equivalent to the other AMAZING parties out there this year. This one features the Mach One Jazz Orchestra. Oh, and did I mention the underwater dance floor? It’s for a good cause, too, supporting conservation work done by the Seattle Aquarium. It’s black tie or cocktail attire (hey, go with the black tie!) and the mood is diamond bright! And don’t forget the underwater dance floor.
Giving the Bash some serious competition are two major parties, one is DList Magazine’s “New Year’s Eve 2010″ being held at Fremont Film Studios (9 p.m. to 2 a.m.). If you haven’t at least been in the neighborhood when the Studios are lit up with a celebrity event, noticed the strings of limos and party-goers approaching (the friendly smiles of the Valet guys tell us it’s...
Scoot About in South Lake Union

There is another way to get around Seattle. Of course walking is great, taxis are convenient, cars are always flexible (except when you’re trying to get on I-5 from downtown at 5:15 p.m.), and the buses in the Pioneer Square Ride Free Area are… free! But have you considered a scooter?
Scoot About in South Lake Union has TGB Key West 49cc, Honda 49cc, and Buddy 49cc scooter rentals available for touring around (currently $30 for first hour and $20 for second and thereafter, or you can choose a daily rate). The Green Conscious business also is aiming to get local businesses, employees, and residents hooked on this fun and easy way to run a few errands and see more of the scenery while doing them! Part of Scoot About’s business plan is offering a Scooter Share Pilot Program for locals at $5 per half hour (get a punch card) to encourage this “viable transportation alternative for better flexibility and mobility, especially in the South Lake Union neighborhood.”
And why not? What have you got to lose but the boredom of a set routine and being closed up in a car where you can’t see, smell and hear the sounds around you the way one does when out in the...
Visit the Pacific Science Center

Want to go to another world? Want to take the bus or at least spend only 15 minutes driving there? OK, try the Pacific Science Center in Seattle Center. From our home in Shoreline it only took us 15 minutes on a bright sunny Sunday afternoon. Our family likes to join because with a family membership card we can feel quite comfortable stopping by three times a week, or for only an hour when we get a chance, without having to stay for hours and exhaust ourselves. There are so many great things to see and do that we could go back every day for a week and it would still be Fun!!
This time we tried the Simulator, and it was worth it…at the last minute I got myself a ticket as well as Daniel and his friend. For a five minute ride, we were flying through space on skittery tracks, plunging into the void and somehow managing to land intact…a breathtaking journey. There are all kinds of simulations to choose from, or you can piggyback on one someone already chose. Next time I want to try the one about water!
Daniel always likes to go to the dinosaur room…when we had the fossil exhibit here, just over, he spent hours dusting sand off the dinosaur eggs in the anthropology simulation....
