Capitol Hill, Seattle Neighborhood

Located on a steep hill, Capitol Hill, called as the home of Seattle’s most diverse population, having a wide range of lifestyles and tastes. People here are as diverse as the architecture from grand old Victorian mansions, located along Millionaire’s Row near Volunteer Park, to sleek 60’s style apartment buildings. Capitol Hill has also a popular movie and theater area, and remains active well into the evening. The Hill is home to the Egyptian Theater, Harvard Exit Theater and Broadway Market Cinemas. It hosts the annual Seattle International Film Festival.

Highlights  of the city include the Broadway Farmers Market, a seasonal fiesta of food, flowers and music; Cal Anderson Park which is full of dog walkers, Frisbee players, streaming fountain and the Pike/Pine Corridor’s vintage clothing stores, furniture shops and coffeehouses.

Students here attend Seattle University, Seattle Central Community College and Cornish College of Arts. Broadway is the central commercial street, lively with shops, coffee houses and restaurants.

Other community landmarks and sites comprise Volunteer Park, the Richard Hugo House, historic Lake View Cemetery, St. Mark's Cathedral, and St. Joseph's Church. The 48-acre Volunteer Park features the Asian Art Museum, a conservatory and a historic water tower. From where all the favorite Seattle landmarks are visible, from the Space Needle to Lake Washington’s floating bridge to Husky Stadium.

Homebuyers shall be interested to know Capitol Hill's housing market includes a terrific selection of stately homes, single-family residences, estates, townhomes and condos, as well as some land parcels for sale. Rentals in Capitol Hill are always in high demand due to the vast array of property types, its close proximity to Downtown.

This is also where you can find a large number of privately-owned condominiums and townhomes for rent. The north section of Capitol Hill, in the area around Volunteer Park; single-family homes are easily available. Most of them were built by Seattle's early-century wealthy. Occasionally homes do come available for rent in this area.
